At Fox Integrated Healthcare, Broomfield and Westminster patients can experience the benefits of spinal decompression treatment, which is the latest breakthrough therapy for chronic back pain. Medically proven to be safe and gentle, this treatment will often work where previous conventional therapies have failed. You may be a good candidate for spinal decompression treatment if you are suffering from the following:
- Herniated and/or bulging discs
- Pinched nerve
- Sciatica (hip and/or leg pain)
- Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD)
- Spinal Stenosis
- Post-surgical pain and/or injury
How Does Spinal Decompression Treatment Work?
The spine consists of 24 individual bones/vertebrae, which are separated, cushioned, and interconnected by a soft ligament (intervertebral disc). In the course of a normal day, our spine will stretch and bend accordingly as we go about our daily routines. While the spine is generally quite resilient, it’s not invincible–daily wear and tear, accidents, repetitive physical tasks, and injuries can exert enormous pressure on the spinal nerves and discs, which may result in chronic pain, numbness, tingling, damaged nerves, damaged discs, and/or sudden sharp pain in the back, legs, and arms.
By slowly and gently stretching (decompressing) the spine, pressure on the nerves and discs are significantly reduced, resulting in noticeable pain relief, diminishing symptoms, and restored range of motion. Spinal decompression therapy requires no lengthy recovery or convalescence; there are no unwanted side effects to endure. Natural, non-invasive and drug-free, this treatment encourages the critical healing of the spine and true restoration of your health.
What To Expect From Spinal Decompression Therapy
Safe and relaxing, each spinal decompression session should last about 25 to 30 minutes. You are fitted with a harness before treatment is begun, to allow for optimized decompression of your neck and/or back. Once you are properly placed, our spinal decompression machine will gently lengthen your spine as you lie comfortably on your back, relieving accumulated pressure from your spine and discs. You also remain in complete control throughout the session–if you feel unbearable discomfort for any reason, you can stop the treatment at any time by using the patient safety switch. Otherwise, this treatment is overwhelmingly pain-free for most patients.
The spinal decompression table we use on our patients is the DRX 9000, which is the most advanced in the industry. In contrast to typical traction therapy machines, the DRX 9000 accurately measures your body’s response as your spine is being stretched. If it detects any muscle pullback or spasm, the force on your body is automatically reduced and adjusted, resulting in a relaxed and pain-free experience. In addition to preventing pain and discomfort, this self-correcting mechanism also accelerates healing–by keeping your muscles relaxed, spinal pressure and inflammation can be relieved much faster and more efficiently.
The recommended duration for spinal decompression therapy is usually between 20 to 25 sessions over the course of 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the severity of your condition. Patients with less severe issues often require less visits, while patients suffering from more extensive spinal problems may require more.
